About the Author Edison Jaquez was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to the United States with his family at the age of seven. He graduated from Perth Amboy High School and has a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Berkeley College. Long before any of his accomplishments, Mr. Jaquez lived a life that is very familiar in urban communities - he spent his early years fighting against the very neighborhood he grew up in. His story has become a testimony that he uses as a tool to motivate and inspire youth to strive for better. Mr. Jaquez continues to stay actively involved with the youth and helping others within his community. He worked with The Jewish Renaissance Foundation, where he served as the Program Coordinator for the Civic Justice Corps. During his seven years as Program Coordinator, Mr. Jaquez worked with at-risk youth between the ages of 16 and 24 to achieve educational milestones, such as receiving their high school diplomas. He was also responsible for program planning, training, and administration of the Why Try program. Additionally, Mr. Jaquez is the CEO of B-Men and co-founder of BYOUtiful, mentoring organizations designed to enhance the lives of today’s youth. Mr. Jaquez is a motivational speaker and travels throughout the state of New Jersey to share his story with audiences young and old. Mr. Jaquez is a self-published author of “A Second Chance: Life Lessons Turned into Living Dreams,” which was published in 2015. He has also appeared in various newspaper articles and radio station programs recognizing him for his work in the community. Mr. Jaquez was named the 2016 Alumni of the Year from his alma mater, Berkeley College. He was honored with the Vale La Pena service award in 2017 from the Boy Scouts of America, which recognizes outstanding service for demonstrated involvement with Hispanic/Latino youth.
